Building habits of any kind doesn’t happen overnight. In order to create desirable, lasting habits you must start with small, intentional actions. The key is just to start - no matter how small or insignificant the action seems. Then, be patient and persistent until these small actions become automatic and turn into lasting habits.
Where I am at in my life right now is massively correlated to the small daily habits that I have adopted and faithfully lived out. My physical health, my relationships, my on field success and my relationship with God have not just magically happened or been the result of one big decision. They are all the result of many micro-doses of positive inputs day after day, week after week, and year after year. In order for you to truly experience massive success in your sport and life, you need to create the right habits. To bring the vision we have for our lives into existence we must always be mindful and intentional about creating the habits that will get us there.
Part of your success lies in subtraction and part of the success will come from addition. When I was younger, I had to strategically subtract bad habits from my life because I wanted to grow and improve so I could reach a higher level of living and performance. For example, if you struggle with making poor food choices, try getting rid of the junk food in your home, or avoid the center aisles at the grocery store. Stick to a list you have pre-written so that you only bring life-giving foods that will help you meet your goals into your home. If you struggle with staying up late scrolling through your phone, leave your phone in a different room overnight, buy an alarm clock, and leave books on your nightstand instead. Subtraction and addition. Eliminate the temptations that will cause you to fall back into old habits, and incorporate something new that will help elevate your life.
